Zoo Lights (Houston)

During the month of December, the Houston Zoo is adorned in Holiday lights. Sip hot chocolate as you stroll through the beautiful Houston Zoo taking in the sights and sounds of the season including more than two million lights. Each exhibit is decorated, so you can celebrate the holidays with all the friendly non-human inhabitants of the zoo.

Festival of Lights (Moody Gardens, Galveston)

Moody Gardens is truly a sight to see this time of year. All three gigantic pyramids are illuminated from head to toe, and visitors walk for roughly a mile along a trail of beautiful, unique displays. Not to mention the homemade s’mores and ice slide at the end. This holiday season members will have the opportunity to savor a bountiful breakfast buffet with Santa Claus and friends at the Garden Restaurant! Commemorate this wonderful experience by posing for a photo with Santa Claus and Moody Gardens’ own, Ollie the Otter!

Holiday Trail of Lights (Wimberley)

Boasting more than eight acres of lights, Wimberley puts on a spectacular show every year through December 31. On Saturday, November 26th, the Emily Ann Theatre’s Tree Lighting ceremony officially opens the Trail of Lights. The trail is open Sunday through Thursday from dusk until 9 PM, Friday and Saturday from dusk until 10. There is no admission to the Trail of Lights, however donations are gratefully accepted because every display is handcrafted and donated by local schoolchildren, families, or businesses.

Santa Land (Lindale)

Lindale might be a small town, but its Christmas spirit is anything but. Santa Land is Texas’s original drive through light display, with several acres of sights from dancing Christmas trees to reindeer jumping over your car. Open Nov 1 though Jan 1, 6pm – 10:30pm daily, 7 days a week, including holidays, rain or shine. Cost is charged per vehicle.

Prairie Lights (Grand Prairie)

Prairie Lights is a must-see attraction this year. You’ll drive through a two-mile path lined with dazzling displays, stopping halfway through to visit the holiday village with seasonal food, a gift shop, an indoor laser show—and an animated walk-through forest. Once you’re back in your car, you’ll complete the experience with the largest light tunnel in Texas. Open Thanksgiving night through December 31; Sunday – Thursday: 6 – 9 p.m. Friday – Saturday: 6 – 10 p.m. Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve: 6-10 p.m.

Gaylord Texan Hotel (Grapevine)

The town of Grapevine is considered to be the Christmas Capital of Texas. Visit Grapevine during the months of November through January to attend more than a thousand different holiday events. Observe millions of Christmas lights and decorations that adorn the entire city. Most of Texas never has a white Christmas, but you can still witness ice sculptures and slides at the manmade “ICE!” display at the Gaylord Texan Resort. ICE! features an imposing two million pounds of ice. Visitors to Grapevine can also participate in other Christmas-infused fun, such as the North Pole Express train ride, a parade and even outdoor showings of Christmas film favorites. Lastly, no Christmas town would be without a Christmas tree so make sure you view the 100-foot Christmas tree and the rest of their impressive holiday display at the Gaylord Texan Resort.

Trail of Lights (Austin)

The Austin Trail of Lights is Austin’s largest holiday tradition. The annual event in Zilker Park, managed by the Trail of Lights Foundation, celebrates the unique spirit and people of the city. The Austin Trail of Lights welcomes about 400,000 people every year to celebrate the holidays in the heart of Austin, Texas during the month of December. Austinites and Central Texans alike bring friends, families, and neighbors to the Austin Trail of Lights to treasure more than 40 displays, 2 million lights, and some of Austin’s favorite food trucks. The event showcases everything special about Austin, music, and food as well as creativity and family fun.
